Alcon’s Unity-led ophthalmic platform, recurring consumables and premiumization support an attractive five-year asymmetric return profile despite an elevated current multiple.
Overview
Alcon is a pure-play global ophthalmic medtech leader with more than 75 years of operating history and two complementary franchises: Surgical, 56% of FY25 sales, and Vision Care, 44%. Its model combines capital equipment with recurring surgical consumables, premium intraocular lenses, daily contact lenses and ocular-health products. **Q2 2026 demonstrated strong underlying execution:** sales rose 8% reported, or 7% in constant currency, to $2.782 billion, while core operating income increased 17% to $574 million and core EPS rose 11% to $0.84. The $402 million PowerVision non-cash charge depressed GAAP operating income to $11 million and GAAP diluted EPS to $0.00, but did not affect cash or long-range objectives. Management raised 2026 core EPS growth guidance to 12%–15%, expanded expected margin growth to 90–190 basis points and reduced tariff-headwind estimates to $40 million–$90 million. **The near-term catalyst set includes Unity adoption, PanOptix Pro, Precision7, TRYPTYR and SMARTCataract DX.** At 59.48 CHF, valuation is 24.70x normalized trailing P/E and 41.41x trailing IFRS P/E, but the report’s probability-weighted five-year target of 92.93 CHF implies substantial upside.
