Bank Handlowy w Warszawie S.A. (BHW.WA) Stock Analysis
Citi Handlowy is shedding retail complexity to become a high-capital, high-dividend Polish institutional banking specialist with strong corporate momentum but near-term rate and migration risks.
Overview
Bank Handlowy, operating as Citi Handlowy, is transforming from a mixed retail/institutional bank into a capital-light Polish corporate banking pure-play backed by Citigroup’s 75.08% ownership. The planned June 2026 transfer of its consumer business to VeloBank will shift 500,000 customers, PLN 6.0bn of loans, PLN 22.1bn of deposits, and PLN 8.9bn of AUM out of the group. The remaining business is a high-quality institutional franchise with strong treasury, payments, custody, and cross-border capabilities serving multinationals, large Polish corporates, and financial institutions.
