Buffalo Potash offers asymmetric development upside from patented low-cost HLD potash mining, but valuation depends on proving technology, funding expansion and reaching Q1 2027 production.
Overview
Buffalo Potash is a Saskatchewan-based pre-commercial developer advancing the 100%-owned Disley Potash Project in the Prairie Evaporite Formation. Its patented Horizontal Line-Drive technology selectively extracts KCl using saturated NaCl brine, leaving waste salt underground and avoiding the water use, surface tailings and evaporative crystallizers associated with conventional mines. **The immediate catalyst is the 125,000 TPA soluble-grade Initial Production Module targeted for commercial start in Q1 2027.** The longer-term plan adds Disley East and West to reach 1.125 million TPA, including 1.0 million TPA granular and 125,000 TPA soluble MOP. The April 2026 PEA outlines a US$1.1 billion after-tax NPV at an 8% discount rate and a 30% IRR, with US$55/tonne modeled OPEX. At CAD$0.76 per share and approximately CAD$83.3 million market capitalization, the stock trades near 0.06x the approximately CAD$1.465 billion translated PEA NAV, reflecting substantial execution and financing risk. Recent drilling was ahead of schedule and under budget, and the Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment confirmed in September 2026 that a full EIA is not required. Near-term catalysts include horizontal drilling, Phase 3 brine circulation, offtake and expansion financing.
