The global gold standard in digital blood-cell morphology—temporarily hit by partner-driven EMEA turbulence, but positioned to compound via recurring reagents/software and a potential FPM expansion into pathology and cytology.
Overview
CellaVision is the category leader and de facto global standard in automated digital cell morphology, modernizing peripheral blood smear and body-fluid analysis by replacing manual microscopy with high-throughput robotics and AI-based classification. Its “razor-and-blades” model combines instrument sales (DM9600/DM1200/DC-1) with high-margin recurring reagents (via RAL Diagnostics) and software licenses (classification apps and proficiency testing), with operations across Americas, EMEA, and APAC. FY2025 net sales were ~SEK 759m, supported by a long-cycle 15% growth ambition. A key strategic advantage is the extended Sysmex partnership (through 2038), leveraging Sysmex’s ~80,000-analyzer installed base and global service reach. Near-term EMEA softness from partner inventory adjustments contrasts with durable tailwinds: lab digitalization, consolidation, and technologist shortages.
