Dauch’s Dowlais-fueled scale and deeply discounted valuation offer substantial upside if management converts synergies into cash and reduces $4.1 billion of net debt.
Overview
Dauch Corporation, formerly American Axle & Manufacturing, is a global Tier 1 supplier of driveline systems and engineered metal components. Its February 3, 2026 acquisition of Dowlais added GKN Automotive and GKN Powder Metallurgy, creating a business with 175+ facilities in 24 countries, roughly 60% of sales in North America, 25% in Europe, and 15% in Asia and other emerging markets. Driveline represents about 75% of combined revenue and Metal Forming about 25%. The company benefits from long OEM platform cycles and strong positions in North American light-truck axles and global sideshafts, but is concentrated in GM, which accounts for approximately 32–42% of sales. Q2 2026 sales rose 92.4% to $2.956 billion, largely due to Dowlais; organic sales were flat. Adjusted EBITDA was $389.6 million at a 13.2% margin, while GAAP net income fell to $1.0 million amid acquisition charges and higher interest. FY2026 guidance is $10.60–$10.80 billion in sales and $1.360–$1.425 billion in adjusted EBITDA. At $5.46, shares trade at 5.6x forward P/E and about 3.9–4.0x EV/EBITDA, reflecting $4.1 billion of net debt and integration risk. **Near-term catalysts are synergy delivery, GM’s truck-platform transition, and the November 17, 2026 Capital Markets Day.**
