Deutz’s Service, Energy and FFG defense expansion can drive a structural re-rating, but acquisition leverage and execution determine whether value reaches €15.94 or €8.34.
Overview
Deutz AG is a Cologne-based independent manufacturer of diesel, gas, hydrogen and electrified drive systems for off-highway applications, serving construction, agriculture, material handling, marine and decentralized power customers. Its new five-unit structure is intended to reduce dependence on cyclical engine volumes by increasing exposure to Service, Energy and Defense. Europe contributes approximately 55% of revenue, the Americas 27%, Asia-Pacific and Middle East 11%, and China 7%. H1 2026 demonstrated improving execution: revenue rose 10.7% to €1,115.3 million, adjusted EBIT increased 43.1% to €79.7 million, and adjusted EBIT margin expanded to 7.1%, the sixth consecutive quarter of improvement. **The principal re-rating catalyst is the proposed €1.6 billion FFG acquisition**, which adds a €1.9 billion-plus backlog and potentially less-cyclical NATO MRO revenue, but it also requires €1.0 billion of debt and dilutes existing holders by 29.9%. Management reaffirmed 2026 revenue guidance of €2.3–€2.5 billion and a 6.5%–8.0% adjusted EBIT margin, while analysts maintain €11.50–€14.00 targets versus approximately €9.70.
